Hypernova
Two halves of a dead star, fighting in an arena in orbit.
The world
In 2047, the light of a star that died eight thousand years ago finally reaches Earth. For three nights the sky turns white. When it goes dark again, a new point of light hangs over the world, bright enough to see at noon, and a few thousand people are no longer quite the same: each of them now resonates with a stellar phenomenon.
Sixteen years later, these Resonants are the most watched athletes on the planet. They fight on platforms suspended in orbit, under the star that changed them, in a league funded by a single company that knows far more about them than it says.
The fighters
The star did not just explode. It burst into light and collapsed into a black hole, and the two first fighters carry one half each.
Kofi is the light. A boxer from Lyon whose father taught him to hold the heat in before he ever let it out, he enters the league to save the family gym from the company buying up his street.
Vega is the collapse. She walked out of a time anomaly in Tokyo seven years after she stepped into it, without having aged a day, with white hair and a blade whose edge is an event horizon. She is looking for her mother, who never came out.
The game
An isometric arena fighter. Each fighter has a super, an awakening and an ultimate, and each one cuts to a full portrait mid-fight: Helios Cannon, Supernova and Hypernova for Kofi; Event Horizon, Singularité and Effondrement for Vega. Each of the three tells a moment of the character’s story.
You can fight the CPU, play a friend on one keyboard, train, or let the CPU fight itself. The video above is that last mode: a full round, played by the AI on both sides. Pixel art with HDR glow, on Godot’s GL Compatibility renderer.
Behind the two fighters sits a world bible: ten families of resonance, the company behind the league, and the rules every future fighter has to follow, from a real martial art underneath to the one part of their body that lights up when they awaken.
